Looking out from the face of the Palace is a grand view indeed. It can be said to resemble the wide importance of the White House lawn, where you see a grand view of the world in front of you, with an hint of power. Further down the street straight forward from the water fountain, is the U.S. Embassy in addition to the French Embassy beside it. We were strictly informed up front we were forbidden to take any photos or videos of the U.S. Embassy when we passed by it. Outside of the building were a collection of armed security guards, cement pillars, and a hoard of surveillance cameras. I don't recall the exact reason why they didn't want photos taken of the building, but if you were caught they would follow you to have that photo erased. Our tour guide, Lamh, mention a story of a member from a different tour group who took a photo and their bus was followed. The guards from the Embassy did something to the person's phone and it sounded as though the guard factory erased the phone, and the tour company faced a terrible fine, if not further actions. The French Embassy is open for photos, there are no cement pillars, guards, or cameras: a much more inviting atmosphere.
