The further we went into the more narrow channels of the Delta, we began to see the perks of living establishments and life in this area of Vietnam. People really do live along the river: the water is their streets. Along the bank, you can see a brick wall. Other than serving as a retaining wall for natural erosion, some of the bricks have holes in them to allow the water to splash through them, among other reasons.
